A Crumb For Your Thoughts

September 21, 2008

Jaden has a cold, so he and I stayed home from church today. When Joe and Brynn walked in, he was laughing and took a picture of this crumb. He relayed the following story: Brynn got a roll of smarties from her teacher and ate them in the car on the way home. When she was half done she closed the wrapper and said she would share the rest with Jaden. A minute later, Joe heard the wrapper opening and Brynn eating more candies. She then announced she was going to give the last two to Jaden. A couple of minutes later the wrapper opened again and Brynn ate, yet, another candy. Looking at the last candy, she said she was going to bite it in half because "Jaden's too little to have a whole piece of candy." She then ate half of the quarter, and, finally, all but the tiny crumb that you see in this photo. Jaden tried to put it in his mouth but it was so small, it just stuck to his lip. He didn't even know it wasn't in his mouth. Bless her heart for thinking of her brother and for trying so hard to save something for him. If only we lived closer to our church building, maybe he would have gotten a whole smartie or maybe two.

We thought of the lesson in this. Like Brynnley, we are all trying to be our best selves, but we are human, and how often we fall short. What will we have to offer when all is said and done? A whole part, or a crumb?

That is so hilarious about Brynn! Good work on the pie. We tried a new recipe yesterday with peaches...it was a sort of tart (basically half a peach wrapped in pastry). It was yummy...and much easier to make than a whole pie. How's school going for Joe? It's going really good for us so far, both Stanton and I getting A's on our first tests. (BTW, I loved the Jane Austen quiz you put up...I'm a huge fan too! I was Elinor Dashwood...which I thought was fitting...I always relate to her.)

I am so glad that you blogged about this story! I laughed about it on more than one occasion!

Ahhh, that is so sweet that she even tried. I don't like to share my candy either.

Cute! That's enough said right? Your kids are just darling!!! I can't wait until Berklie has a little sister to share and dress up with! Hey, I need your pie recipe- do you mind sharing? I made one too- didn't look good, and didn't taste good! I have a friend who has an orchard in Perry, and I bought a TON of peaches (7 bushels) at a great price-for friends, family & myself. I thought I'd try a pie, and didn't have a recipe. Well, let me just tell ya- my idea of what might go into a peach pie...just didn't cut it!
